How often is the most suitable brake disc replacement?

You can hear a squeak when you step on the brakes. Is it time for your brake discs to be replaced? Today, I will talk about the car brake discs in detail.

  1. What is the braking principle of a car?

First, let’s popularize the principle of car braking: when the driver uses the brake pedal, the brake oil in the brake master cylinder will generate pressure, and the fluid will transmit the pressure through the pipeline to the piston in the caliper of each wheel. On the upper side, the piston tightens the brake pads and brake discs before driving the card, thereby generating friction and decelerating the vehicle.

Therefore, the brake pads in the brake calipers clamp the circular brake discs during driving to achieve tire braking. If the brake discs and brake pads are not replaced for a long time, large wear will occur and the braking effect of the car will deteriorate. It is very important to master the relevant knowledge of brake discs.

  2. What is the brake disc?

Brake disc, in simple terms, is a round plate, which also rotates when the car is moving. The brake caliper clamps the brake disc to generate braking force. When the brake is stepped on, it clamps the brake disc to slow down or stop. The brake disc has good braking effect and is easier to maintain than drum brakes.

3, the replacement mileage of the brake disc

Generally speaking, the brake pads (that is, the two in the brake calipers) need to be replaced about 30,000 to 40,000 kilometers, and the replacement mileage of the brake disc is generally about 70 to 80,000 kilometers. Of course, changing the mileage is not absolutely absolute, it is determined by factors such as the owner's own driving habits (whether they like sudden braking), road conditions and other factors.

  4. Under what circumstances should the brake disc be replaced?

In addition to the mileage mentioned above, if the warning light of the brake disc lights up, it means that the loss has reached the limit and needs to be replaced immediately.

Check whether there are deep grooves on the brake disc. When the thickness of the deep grooves on both sides exceeds 3 mm, the brake disc needs to be replaced.

If the frequency of replacement of the brake pads is high, you can observe the thickness of the brake pads. If the brake discs are worn too much, they need to be replaced in time, because the wear of the brake pads and the brake discs are generally corresponding.

Brake discs will generate a lot of heat during braking, so do not wash the car immediately after braking. You should turn off the engine to reduce the surface temperature of the brake discs to prevent the high-temperature brake discs from deforming and cracking due to contact with cold water, expansion and contraction.

In addition, the best way to increase the life of the brake disc is to maintain good driving habits and try to avoid sudden stops.

  5. Where is the wear limit of car brake discs?

The car brake disc wear limit mark is on the brake disc surface or edge. There will be 3 small pits evenly distributed on the disc surface. The depth of each small pit is about 1.5mm. When the total wear depth of both sides of the brake disc reaches 3mm, that is to say When the small pits are quasi-ground or completely ground, the brake disc is close to the wear limit. It is recommended to replace the brake disc at this time. In addition, there are minimum thickness data on the edge of the brake disc. When the thickness of the worn brake disc is close to the minimum thickness data, the brake disc should be replaced immediately at this time.

In addition to judging whether the brake disc needs to be replaced by looking at the brake disc wear limit sign, we can also judge by listening to the brake sound. If there is a "silk sound" or "whistling sound" when the brake is tapped, it means that the brake system needs to be checked. , It may be that the brake pads are worn to the limit, or the brake disc is worn by metal hard objects (in this case, it is recommended to replace the brake disc)。

In addition, when the brake disc fails or is excessively worn, a warning light will appear on the car dashboard.

When the warning light is on, the braking performance is reduced, and the brake disc is close to the wear limit, which affects driving safety. Of course, it is also possible that the warning light reports an error, so when the warning light appears, you can check the brake system first. If there is no such problem, you can restore it by initializing the trip computer.
